Fact-Checking MSM: The Hysteria Surrounding Neo-Nazi Bitcoin Funds

BAILEY T. STEEN | THURSDAY, AUGUST 9, 2018

If every narrative needs its powerful villain, mainstream media hasnât hesitated in making the alt-right appear a scarier boogieman than it really is. Following 2016âs electoral win of Republican President Donald Trump, many activists and political pundits expressed shock in the belief that these fringe white supremacist movements rose to dangerous popularity overnight.
Their mentality was like that of Platoâs Cave â the allegory of innocent men chained to walls in fear of the outside worldâs non-existent threats â this time applied to media consumers hearing only tales of neo-Nazis as some ruthlessly organised tyranny. While the deplorable egos of fascists are undying, still persistent in their racist views for several decades, their movement remains the larping embarrassment of modern politics.
As we reach the one year anniversary of the deadly âUnite The Rightâ rally in Charlottesville, Virginia â which saw the tragic death of counter-protestor Heather Heyer and 2 U.S. soldiers â a second rally is currently scheduled for this weekend. Virginiaâs Governor Terry McAuliffe has now called for an official âstate of emergencyâ as 400 far-right activists expected to flood into Washington D.C. and other parts of the country come August 11th. Ahead of these rallies, prominent outlets such as Forbes, The Daily Beast, The Hill and Mic.com have reported that far-right bitcoin donations are ârapidly growingâ.
This wouldnât be a problem if weâre just talking the ethics behind these donations. Thereâs certainly an argument that even just one penny going towards rallies known for their violent radicals is too much. The issue is we canât allow these radicals to have us turn off our critical thinking and lie. The big scary number the outlets cite is this â$10,000 surge in bitcoin donationsâ ahead of the new rally. This would concerning⌠but thereâs a dishonest catch. To use the word âsurgeâ implies that individuals, in some recent populist wave, are all chipping in money to support their growing cause.
However, this isnât reality.
Nazis, by their nature, barely have any friends.
And we have the science to prove it.
According to a Ipsos poll, where 5,360 American adults were questioned on racial issues, well over 89 percent of respondents agreed that all races should be treated equally, 70 percent strongly agreeing that âall races are equalâ. Only an insignificant minority outright disagreed with that statement. Thatâs not exactly a large poll of Americans ready to join the ethno-state movement.
Consider the chart provided by Forbes. They cite another scary number saying the alt-right trash blog, The Daily Stormer, âattracted some $60,000 in bitcoin and cryptocurrency donationsâ prior to Charlottesville. How did these Nazi pull together so many funds from so many hateful Americans? Well, they didnât. According to their own BTC tracker source and blockchain records, $56,000 of those donations came from one person.

âWhile cryptocurrency is often anonymous, if youâve made your public address available at itâs known to be linked to you, then people are able to see the wallets incoming and outgoing funds via the blockchain,â cyber security analyst John Bambenek told Forbes of his tracker. âI even came across one neo-Nazi using an Israeli bitcoin exchange, which I found quite ironic.â
The only reason this amount was sent was for an inside neo-Nazi meme, sending 14.88 bitcoins to have a laugh at the iconic 14 words of their white supremacist ideology. The alt-right, despite their desperate desire for some all-powerful ethno-state, couldnât even pull together $5,000 for 15 minutes of fame to celebrate confederate general Robert E. Lee. Not without playing welfare queen to one rich scumfuck with enough play money to waste on some memes. Thatâs hardly a âsurgeâ. Itâs sad.
This new âsurgeâ is no different.
That recent $10,000, when examined through the blockchain transactions, amounts to only $8,000 from 2 accounts on the 27th of July. Sure, any donation made to organisers like the Daily Stormerâs Jewish webmaster, Andrew âWeevâ Auernheimer and Chris âCrying Naziâ Cantwell, should be reported to the public. These are deplorable people will use any money they can to enact deplorable levels of violence. We just shouldnât pretend theyâre any more powerful than they are.
Even The Southern Poverty Law Center, the absolute crying wolf of the newly discredited watchdogs organisations, admit the likes of Jason Kessler have embarrassing incomes of only $55 over the past two months. Not all Nazis can be Weev, reportedly worth $1.8 million in cryptocurrency.
We can take a wild guess as to who that single donor could possibly be.
Thatâs right â their own Jewish welfare provider, as revealed by our report into Weevâs ethnic ancestry. Everyone else, it seems, is either playing catch-up, checked out or has cucked to their own enemy.
How very ironic, indeed.
